Crowdsourcing water solutions with PUB's NEW Global Innovation Challenge 2021


PUB - Singapore National Water Agency's second edition of the Global Innovation Challenge (GIC) has been launched as part of its goal to transform the nation into a Smart Utility of the Future. Companies and researchers around the world are invited to co-create innovative water solutions for a better future. GIC is an open innovation platform seeking best-in-class solutions that can meet future water needs.



Singapore's Commitment to Water Solutions

Given the success of GIC 2020, PUB is continuing their efforts this year to source ground-up solutions from a wider target audience with inspiration from the digitalisation efforts of counterparts across the world. PUB is committed to support the development, deployment, and adoption of advanced water treatment solutions to meet Singapore's future water needs.


Challenge statements

GIC 2021 revolves around four challenge statements:

  1. The real-time identification of prohibited organic compounds in sewers.

  2. Mapping of underground utilities.

  3. Cost-effective rainfall monitoring.

  4. Innovative solutions for coastal protection measures.

Funding and Benefits

The shortlisted candidates will receive:

  1. Pilot funding of up to S$250,000 each.

  2. Mentor-ship from PUB's in-house experts.

  3. Access to real-world test-beds in PUB facilities and the opportunity to commercialise these solutions.

Who can join?

The challenge is open to all companies, innovators, and researchers from across the globe.

Applications are open now until 10 August 2021 at 23:59 hrs. (UTC+8)


Date of Webinar

The GIC 2021 online information session will be conducted on 14 July 2021, 4pm via Zoom.
